MASA continues to collaborate with four other school management associations—MASSP, MASB, MAISA, and MSBO—in opposing Proposals 2 and 5. (Read our joint statement announcing opposition). In addition to the www.stop2and5.com website, MASA's Government Relations team has assisted in distributing weekly alerts to members with specific actions to take each week before the election.
Our associations believe in the right of employees to collectively bargain and we would not support unwarranted tax increases. Our position is not a case of business versus education or teachers versus administrators. These proposals are an outright attempt by two unhappy groups to bypass Michigan's legislative process and rather inappropriately write statute in our constitution. Simply stated, in order to protect our students, our taxpayers, and our constitution we must stand together to STOP PROPOSALS 2 AND 5.This website is a resource for education leaders across Michigan and an information portal for the general public.
Visit stop2and5.com website for talking points, background info, and other resources for educators who may face questions in their community about the proposals. MASSP has also prepared a one-page front-and-back informational handout for each of the initiatives aimed specifically at the issues most important to principals. You can access those documents here:
Each proposal threatens severe negative consequences, so we urge members to speak out against these initiatives in their communities.
