Top Experts to Explain and Discuss Changes to Michigan’s Tenure and Collective Bargaining Laws, and More on August 10 in Lansing.

Governor Snyder is poised to sign legislation that contains the most sweeping changes to tenure and collective bargaining laws in Michigan’s history.  We know what the law says, but there are many issues with interpretation and implementation.

The Devil’s in the details!  That’s why MASA and MASB have brought together a group of top experts to help you understand them and prepare for the coming school year.

Speakers and Topics Include:

The New Era of Tenure:  Barb Ruga, JD, Clark Hill; Gary Collins, JD, Collins and Blahah;  Brad Bansik, JD, MASB Legal Counsel.

Re-Balancing Negotiations, The New Law and Its Impact on the Practice of Negotiations: Kevin Harty, JD, Thrun Law Firm; Tom White, Associate Director for Labor Relations, MASB.

Concessions Bargaining from Those Who’ve Been There: Brian Whiston, Superintendent, Dearborn Public Schools; Rick Arnett, Assistant Superintendent for Human Relations and Labor Relations, West Bloomfield School District; Bruce Bigham, President, Labor Relations Services;  Dan Pappas, Executive Director of the Michigan Institute for Educational Management.

What To Do When You Run Out of Money and/or Time: Beverly Bonning, JD, Thrun Law Firm; Brad Banasik, JD, MASB Legal Counsel.

The changes to law will have long term and profound impacts on how school managers do their jobs, and how schools are operated. The law will evolve as schools and unions begin interacting.  Get off on the right foot in your district by gaining an understanding of what your peers and the experts are doing.
