Michigan PTA will be hosting a Family Engagement Seminar in Detroit on September 15th from 8:30am–3:00pm at the Michigan State University Detroit Center, 3408 Woodward Avenue. The event will feature training for parents on early literacy skills, family health and nutrition, the Common Core State Standards, behavior management strategies, and child advocacy. There will also be series of workshops offered entirely in Spanish running concurrent to the Family Engagement Seminar. The event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP via e-mail by September 12th to thestandards@michiganpta.org.
“Michigan PTA believes that every adult should be a forceful advocate for the education and well-being of children, and we are thrilled to have this opportunity to provide parents and community members in Metro Detroit with this valuable training,” commented Shaton Berry, President of Michigan PTA.
A generous grant from the National PTA is being used to engage, educate, and train PTA members and parents about Grassroots Advocacy and the Common Core State Standards. Michigan PTA has already trained hundreds of parents and community members across the state and has shared information on the new Common Core State Standards with thousands of people.
For more information or to schedule a presentation in your community, contact Michigan PTA’s Common Core State Standards Initiative at thestandards@michiganpta.org.
